so, i was reading a book* when i came across a word i had never seen before: "defenestrated". this is of course the verb form of "defenestrate". it graced the sentence "A grateful Albert Anastasia paid a hundred thousand dollars to O'Dwyer and two equally corrupt police officers; these latter two men and a police captain defenestrated Abe Reles before he could reveal much else about the Mafia."
i didn't know what the word meant, but it was crucial to the understanding of the sentence that surrounded it. so i hopped over to dictionary.com and looked it up.

it means "to throw out a window".

how fucking great is that?!! there's an actual word that means "to throw out a window". why do we need one word for that?
i was so amused by this, that i humbly nominate "defenestrate" as word of the year.

*in case you just had to know, i was reading goombata: the improbable rise and fall of john gotti and his gang by john cummings and ernest volkman
