I just looked around until I saw a piercing that "spoke to me". I don't know how to phrase it, I just kind of felt complete when I saw it. The second page is great, because it shows the risks and stuff associated.
The best thing to do is just research, research, research the piercing before you get it. The same goes for tattoos, except for even more research. Most piercings you can take out and go back to normal (the exceptions are stretched piercings and dermal punches), but tattoos are forever. The removal process is usually more expensive and painful than the actual tattooing.
Do a lot of research on local tattoo shops to make sure you're not going to get fucked over. A good LJ community for finding shops is bodymods. You can also read through their tags for experiences relating to different piercings and such. I also read stretched, bmezine, and _modified. There's even communities for "what piercing should I get" opinion stuff. I don't know any of those offhand though.
