Oh, it's a ton of money to me too - I'm a freelance writer, like the woman who wrote that. But it's not like $50,000 for cancer treatment or something. It's going to make her life harder for a while, but it's not going to ruin her financially.
Personally as a taxpayer I'd see paying for a $450 abortion a lot more preferable than paying for neonatal care, which is substantially more. Then there's health care costs for the child, and so on.
Yeah, but the child would also grow up to pay taxes and put money into social security so that the country gets slightly less in debt. But now we've gone into measuring someone's worth according to their earning potential, and that's just creepy :/
Personally I would have had more sympathy for the woman if she'd presented her argument that way... instead it was all 'Oh no, I have to deal with the consequences of my actions, give me money'.
